Find Your Freedom

This is one of the paintings I did in my secondary school days. It is related to the topic, Freedom. Freedom is life, it is a gift. Everybody wants to be free, even the sea creatures. Without freedom life becomes dull. Freedom has many denotations, let alone definitions, but the connotation is not the same to everyone. Freedom is probably one of the most expensive things in the world yet it is one of the things most taken advantage of.  We are lucky to be in a society of freedom. Yes, some people take advantage of it, but, why not? Freedom is a wonderful entity but it might not last forever. If chances were never taken and if discoveries were never made, what would the world be like? Without freedom, life would not be as exciting or adventurous. Yes, our freedom was in danger, but it was not taken away from us. We may not be free forever, so let’s enjoy it while we can. Just remember, we are the land of the free and the home of the brave!

NAFA FUN DAY 2013

Today was the most awaited day for many of my classmates, the NAFA Fun Day. Justin Dominic Mission who acted in Ah Boys To Men, really did an awesome job as an emcee. He brought a lot of laughers to the surrounding. Some of the boy in my class took part in the soccer competition. But to their dismay, they didn’t win it. But that didn’t matter, what mattered the most was that they participated in it.  We played some games together as a class. We also took a lot of picture in remembrance of this year’s Fun Day. Basically, everyone who had came down to the Fun Day would have definitely have enjoyed themselves. I can’t wait for next year’s Fun Day.

Something That Boosts Up My Confidence

Hair can be our most defining physical attribute. It frames our face and reflects who we are inside. We use our hair to mimic our idols, to scare our oppressors, to show our faith and to mesmerize potential mates. And no matter how devoid of vanity we claim to be, we all have caught a glimpse of ourselves in the window of a building or on the reflection of a passing car and thought ‘Today is a damn good hair day.’ I appreciate hair, my hair to be specific. It’s been an ever changing, ever-present source of self-expression. From my personal point of view, I prefer having long hair that short hair. Short hair makes my face look older and rounder. Therefore, having long hair is the best option for me.

A Sweet Treat..

Chocolate is one of the most loved desserts for me. It’s the only food that makes me happy whenever I am alone or feel depressed. Chocolate comes in different shapes, sizes and types. Whenever I eat chocolates, the first thing that I will feel is happiness and enjoyment. I feel happiness and enjoyment because in every bite, I enjoy every little bit of that chocolate, its texture and its taste. Chocolates are the most delicious food I've ever tasted. One of my favourite chocolates are Toblerone and Ferrero Rocher. For me, chocolates are one of the best foods ever created. No can ever stop me from eating chocolates.

Perfume

Perfume has played a role in human existence and interactions for many thousands of years. I believe in the power of perfume. Perfume is meant to cover our natural scent, and to hide whispers of sweat with subtle floral overtones. The above two perfumes are my most favourite ones. Personally, I think that they just smell great. But my mom doesn’t really like the fragrance of the above two perfumes. Well, different people have different taste. I think that we should wear what pleases us and not the others. And it is also not fair for others to wear things that they do not prefer.

The Rush Hour

The rush hour is that time of the day where practically everybody, from workers to students rush home from a long, tiring boring day at work or at school. On many Mass Rapid Transits(MRTs), one could actually feel the tension in the air as commuters gritted their teeth and squeeze into the carriages, literally rubbing shoulders with strangers they did not know. The more fortunate of these would be able to obtain a seat and proceed to either fall asleep with a worried frown upon their face, or stare into space. I always hated it whenever I had to squeeze myself in a crowed train. How I wish MRT trains will not be as pack as sardines during the rush hour.

How Colours Makes You Look Beautiful

I love how colours can make one’s eyes look beautiful. One way to have coloured eyes of us, Asians, is by wearing coloured contact lenses. It has become a new trend in the eyewear facade. Perfect vision is very uncommon, thus it increases the demand for a device that will enable those who cannot see clearly. I have been wearing contact lenses for more than 5 years. The reason for me to wear my contact lenses is because I believe that my eyes are my best feature and I find that glasses are not that flattering on me. The most common coloured lens I wear will be Grey. Some “Ang Mohs” who visit my workplace, will look into my eyes and say that I have nice beautiful eyes.  The thing is that they do not know that most Asians do not have coloured eyes. Whenever they give me compliment about my eyes, I would just say thank you with a big wide smile on my face.

Happiness

One essential standard for living is being able to be happy.  All people struggle in their lives for the attainment of single cause, namely happiness. It is a gift sent from heaven, a smile graced on a face and a laugh fixed with a beautiful melody. Happiness is dreaming of being free, waking up and achieving up. Happiness is finding something you never expected to find. Happiness is a word you can't explain, but your heart does that certain jump that makes you smile endlessly. Being surrounded with those, whom I love, makes me happy. Happiness matters to me a lot because it is a simple word, but has a meaning to it. I believe that if I live my life every day to the fullest, I am always happy.

Social Networking Sites

Instagram, Twitter and Facebook are one of the most common social networking websites used among teenagers nowadays. For many teens of this day and age, visiting these sites are a part of their daily routine. These sites make it possible to interact with the people next door, or across the world, with one click. It also allows us to keep in touch with our friends and family that may live far away. The most commonly used social networking site for me will be Instagram. I love how the Instagram works, where we are allowed to post pictures and show others how a picture can tell us a something eventhough it might look simple.

Tired Kids

It was a long hectic day, last Friday for both me and Sabrina where we only ended school at around 6pm. We were whining all day long for the day to end as we both were drained out from doing our assessments.  When the clock finally stricked 6, we both felt happy and relieved that the day as came to an end.  We both took the train back home. The way she slept on my shoulder while on the train told me that she was really tired and needed a quick nap. Lesson learnt: we should always make use of whatever time we have in life.

Wish It Never Dies

Mobile phones play an important role in our daily life. Almost everyone including primary school kids, owe a mobile phone. The thing I hate most about the mobile phones is when my phone battery is about to die on me. I hate to see my phone keep reminding me that my phone battery is low and should connect my charger to my phone. This gets worse when I don’t have my charger with me. Why can’t all phones have 100 percent battery life all day long? If I ever become an inventor, I will definitely invent a mobile phone that always has a 100 percent battery life which never dies on us.  This would definitely make one’s life much easier, mine specially

Grandma..

I still remember how my grandmother would always ‘sayang’ me after she beats and scolds me when I was young. She cooks me whatever dish I ask her for. One of my most favourite dishes she cooks will be the Mutton Curry. She never fails to cook it on every Deepavali. She always put a smile on my face without even trying. She loves watching her favourite Indian drama serials every weekday without fail, to pass her time. Till today, whenever I fall sick, she will get my sickness treated using the remedies that were taught to her by her mum.

Reserved Seats

I always get stared by aunties who are in their early or mid-40s, whenever I sit on a reserved seat on the train. I just don’t understand why. Can’t a teenager seat on a reserved seat? Are the reserved seats only meant for elderly, pregnant woman, those with children and those who got their leg injured? I think that having this mindset is totally unfair to us, teenagers.  When we don’t offer our seat, we will get “stomped”. Because of this, I got a phobia of sitting on a reserved seat. In order for me not the get “stomped”, I will either stand or seat on the other available seats eventhough I see a reserved seat empty .

Climbing It Up...

Stairs. That will be the most hatred thing to climb on for many of us. I specially hate climbing up the stairs whenever I have heavy things to carry around with me. Another person who I know who hates stairs, will be my dearest Sabrina Ng. We will take the lift even though our classroom is at the second floor. We will whine non-stop whenever we had no choice but to take the stairs. Sabrina always says “I would rather roll up the stairs than to climb up the stairs.” I cannot imagine her doing that even though that is not possible.

Visit To The Aquarium

Last month, my mum brought me and me two cousins to the Resorts World Sentosa’s Sea Aquarium for her company’s family day. The moment I reached the place, I saw a long queue going towards the entrance of the aquarium. Most of them in the queue were wearing the same red colour polo t-shirt as me. The moment I entered the aquarium, I realized how beautiful fishes can be too. Many fishes look attractive due their body colours and feathers. There were more than 200 types of fishes in varies sizes and colours which mesmerized me. Many of the tanks had a provision of colourful lights inside. These lights increased the beauty of the tank and the fishes in it.  I think that having an aquarium is a good option for those who love to watch aquatic life closely. It also gives us a chance to watch overall day and night activities of fishes and other aquatic lives.

Never Give Up

It has been said that life can never be carried out and truly lived to its fullest unless there has been some sort of suffering and pain. Mistakes are to be learned from, and a hard past can only result in a stronger present. Though many might find themselves alone in their misery the truth is they are not, everyone has struggles. We all have our ups and downs, but it is how we react to them that truly matters. Giving up is one of, if not the biggest sign of a weak person. When you give up, and just throw all of your dreams out of the window, and just forget what all you have sacrificed trying to get where you are today, you are a weak person. I believe that no one should give up. Life is life and no matter what, giving up on lifelong dreams and aspirations because of a few bumps in the road should never be an option.

Ellen DeGeneres

Watching television is a great source of entertainment. It is a favourite past-time of many people, cutting across the culture, creed, gender and age. I see different programmes of different channels. The most popular TV programmes are dramas, variety shows, and sports. Among all the programmes, my favourite would be the talk-variety shows. One of which is The Ellen DeGeneres show. I personally think that she is a funny woman who also helps people who are in need. She also gives recognitions to those who have helped the community. What I like most from the programme is when the audiences will dance together with Ellen at the beginning of the show. One of her most famous dance moves is dancing over the table, where she straddles the coffee table and dances from one end to the other. By watching this show, it also reduces my stress.

The Beauty Of Nature..

Just when I looked out of my window, I saw how beautiful the nature can be. The moon captured my eyes. It sheds light which gave me a cool and refreshing feeling. It also gave a soothing effect on my mind and body. The entire sky was lighted up by the cool and soothing beams of the moon. The sight of the moon made me forget all of my worries. A moonlit night is a wonderful time to move out and enjoy Nature in its purity. Everything dull and drab becomes beautiful in the light of the moon. Nature is something that we should always appreciate its beauty.

Cartoons

Cartoons consist of a large amount of today's television. Many of today's cartoons show very similar relationships. Different cartoons encourage different beliefs and appeal to different audiences. Yet most cartoons tie all audiences together by targeting the children with the humorous outline. My most favourite cartoons are the Road Runner, Telletubbies, Sesame Street, Popeye the Sailor Man, Scooby Doo and Powerpuff girls. I still remember how I will rush home from my primary school just to watch the cartoons. And how I will always get scolded by my mum for watching the cartoons and not completing my homework. I think that by watching cartoons, it helps me to lessen my worries. It saddens me that some of my favourite cartoons are not being telecast in the television in the recent years.

Sheena

Humans have made pets of animals for thousands of years. From something as common as a cat to something as exotic as a lion, history has shown that humans have kept such animals as pets. However, there is one animal that stands out above the rest. Time after time, dogs have proven themselves to be loyal, protective and loving companions. This is why they make the best pet to adopt. Sheena is my cousin’s pet dog. From a young age, I had a phobia for dog. But Sheena had changed my mindset. She is the only dog that I have touched in my entire life. She is a really friendly dog who loves to play with children and gets excited whenever she sees them.

The Naughty One..

Sisters have a bond that lasts their entire lives. They share every moment, from the most trivial to the most defining, of a lifetime. My cousin Sharmini will always hold a special place in my heart, and nothing that may come our way can change that. She is 2 years younger than me. I still remember how she used to bully me during our childhood days. How I will always get scolded for the mischievous things she does and puts the blame on me.  And how much I had to tolerate her nonsense till today. But whatever it is, she will always be my favourite cousin and my shopping partner.

If Only I could Rewind The Time...

I wish I had never grown up. It’s just too sudden. It feels as if it was only yesterday that when I had no worries. I could look back and have no regrets. I didn't feel as if I had to satisfy someone for it to be okay to be me. Life is full of responsibilities. Homework. Fights. Grades. When I was little, the future was so far away I didn't give a damn about what I wanted to be when I grew up. I still laugh at the crazy stuff I did when I was younger. I remember the old cartoons I used to laugh my butt off, the times when I get scolded by my mum when I stayed up passed nine o'clock. If only I had a remote control for life. I would go back to the good times, forward the sad times, re-live the awesome times, and pause the moments that are slipping through my fingers. But time won’t stop. Time waits for no one. That’s what memories are for.

A Visit To The Dentist

Last week, I accompanied my cousin brother to the dentist to get his braces checked. We had to wait for half an hour even though we reached earlier than the allocated time given to us. My cousin brother waited patiently but nervously for his turn. When his name was called, he nervously walked into the dentist room and sat on the dentist seat. The nurse then gave him a pair of goggles to protect his eyes from the braces check. With his itchy hands, he took the goggles and wore it several times repeatedly. It was funny seeing him doing that which made him look as though that was his first time seeing and wearing a pair of goggles.

The Awesome Ones

Friendship is one of the most precious gifts of life. A person who has true friends in life is lucky enough. Friendship makes life thrilling. It makes life sweet and pleasant experience. Friendship is indeed, an asset in life. It can lead us to success or to doom. It all depends on how we choose our friends. True friendship is a feeling of love, sharing and caring. It is a feeling that someone understands and appreciates you as you are, without any exaggeration, flattery and pretensions It gives a feeling that you are ‘wanted’ and that you are ‘someone’ and not a faceless being in the crowd. A true friend stands by you through thick and thin. True friendship knows no boundaries, creed and race. Good friends are great pillars of life. They help us to stand tall and erect in life.

My Most Favourite Ones

I just love being with babies and children. It instantly turns my worst day to a brighter one, whenever I see a baby smile. I personally think that babies are the best gifts by God. I love seeing them smile with their mouth wide opened, how they laugh and how they communicate to us with their 'baby' language. Last weekend, I went to one of my neighbour child’s birthday who celebrated her 2nd Birthday. Her parents invited all of her friends over for the celebration as well. In one of her friend, there was a shy boy. The only thing he did was to shake his head up and down or sideways when a question was asked to him and would stay still at the same position. But the rest where the opposite, they were jumping everywhere, and were making so much of noise. Seeing them enjoying themselves and being happy, made me happy too. At the end of the day, not only the kids who had a great time, but me too.

Going Traditional

Traditional costumes are peculiar to or characteristic of a certain nation or ethnic group, which usually retains strong elements of the culture from which it originates. Where Western fashions have become usual, traditional costumes are often worn in connection with special events and celebrations, particularly those connected with cultural traditions, heritage, or pride. I realized that traditional costumes have never lost their meaning. This is one of my favourite Punjabi suites which was tailored in Malaysia. It is in cream and mint green in colour with beads in it. Even though it might look simple, I think that the details given to the suite gives it a rich look. I just love dressing up traditionally.

How Technology Affects Us...

Today we are constantly immersed in technological advancements that promote non stop communication and instant gratification whether through hand phones, laptops or iPods. I believe that the growth of technology has negative influenced the social interactions of us because it isolates individuals from reality, hinders communication and perpetuates the concept of immediate satisfaction.

The iPod is one example. By putting in the ear buds and immersing ourselves in the music while in public, we are disconnecting ourselves from the real world. Technology also hinders personal communication, which negatively impacts our age group. Therefore, we must learn to embrace technology without allowing it to negatively impact the creation of functional adults in the society.

The precious one

I believe that time is the most precious thing a person can have. Yes, family, friends, nature, there is an endless list of precious things out there. Little do most people know that none of these things would matter, without time. To some people, it’s just a clock. Time to me is expensive, even though it is free. It is something that should never be taken for granted. You can never find lost time, no matter how hard you try. A man’s life is very short but the work is much large and difficult. There is so much to do in one’s life. Therefore, we should not waste even a single minute. Every breath, every second should be used properly and meaningfully. Time should never be passed up or forgotten, because it is a simple gift from God. A gift that never gets treated the way it should.

My First Job

For teenagers, having a job is a way of making money, just a way of having extra cash for movies or clothes. It makes one feel independent. Personally, it made me feel sort of an adult. It taught me how to be responsible and to handle my finances. I had learnt to interact with my co-workers and work with different types of people. In a way, it was almost like I had learned real life skills.it will always be a big part of me maturing and becoming a young adult.

Singapore Flyer is the place where I have been working for a year plus, coming to two years. I enjoy working with my awesome and funny colleagues who will always make my day at work an enjoyable one eventhough, I will have to face some ups and downs at work.

Momzieee

Momzie is the calling name I gave for my mom. I personally think that calling my mom, momzie is rather cute. She’s my best chef, my best inspiration and also my best advisor. She is that one person that has always stood by my side, always encouraging me to reach my fullest potential and never gives up on me. My mom brought me and my two elder brothers up solely.  She has always provided me and my brothers the best education opportunities that there could and always pushed and strived for me to get all that I should. I admire my mom because as an individual, she is a strong woman who has the courage to fight against all the obstacles that have entered into our lives. Throughout my 19 years on this earth, I've seen my mom transform herself into whoever our family needed her to be. It has been in recent years that I discovered a new quality of my mom- a new friend. And yes, she’s the best at it. I love you momzieee! ~

Graffiti Art

Why can’t Graffiti art be legal? It is a form of vandalism? Why are there many restrictions towards it? Such questions still ponders around in my mind. I think that graffiti art gives us a freedom of space for art. It spices a wall up and makes a blank wall come alive. I also think that it expresses ones talent and feelings. It can instil peace into a single soul and unite a group of people. Graffiti can go beyond what we call vandalism. It can work as an attention grabber. Graffiti triggers the mind, the soul and the heart. Bringing its viewer to a place in time, or even to a memory they had forgotten about. It is one of the most amazing and expressive forms of art. It should be understood that graffiti is not always an act of aggression or rebellion but an art that we should appreciate.
